This week I’ve read another boring study about the health effects of the Mediterranean diet. Researchers say it helps live longer.

What’s the news?


I’m surprised to see newspapers and journals writing the same articles, posting the same pictures with olive oil and salads and not explaining real life tips on how to achieve longevity.

They risk to confuse people and transform the Med Diet in a stereotype

But the main thing that surprises me is the fact that people don’t search diets to stay healthy. They want a diet only for weight loss purposes…their main goal is to appear nice to the others…health is a secondary goal.

They are wrong, health should be their main goal. Don’t forget that weight loss is only a consequence of being healthy.

But come back for a moment to the results of this new study…

They say that if you eat following the Mediterranean diet and follow a good physical regime, you are less likely to die, at least next five years more.

Ok…stop! Now build a list of healthy behaviors.

What are the main causes of die?

  • Alzheimer
  • Cancer
  • Heart diseases
  • Bad cholesterol
  • Overweight
  • High blood pressure
  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes

It’s well known and demonstrated that the Mediterranean diet has a primarily role in preventing these disease.

So don’t try to search for a specific diet that helps avoiding only heart diseases, cancer or cholesterol. Try instead to follow an healthy diet plan and you’ll prevent them all.

What should we do to live longer?

  • Be optimistic and don’t think of what other people think
  • Stop smoking
  • Drink 1 glass of wine a day
  • Eat an high amount vegetables and legumes (spinach, broccoli, fave, peas, beans)
  • Drink at least 8 glass of water a day
  • Instead of snacks eat fruit or home made cakes
  • Eat always fresh foods (veg. fruits and legumes)
  • Eat less red meat (especially lamb and beef)
  • Increase the intake of fish rich in omega-3
  • Put 1 spoon a day of Olive Oil

What I do to live healthy

[Please don’t take it has a rule to follow, ask before your doctor]

Here my “daily plan” to live healthy

  • 08:00 AM Breakfast (Withe bread and Nutella, Yogurt and Coffee)
  • 11:00 AM Sicilian red oranges juice (3 oranges and 1 lemon)
  • 13:00 PM Lunch (Pasta and tomatoes or beans, a lot of salad with fresh tomatoes, onions, lettuce and carrots)
  • 13:30 PM 15 minutes Snap + coffee
  • 18:00 PM 2 apples or peaches or sliced ananas or a banana
  • 19:00 PM Exercise (15-20 minutes cyclette or stepper + 25 minutes boxing bag + 15 minutes body building)
  • 21:00 PM Dinner (Bread, meat or cheese and salads)
  • 22:00 Go to sleep for at least 8 hours

As you can see, I’m not in a stricktly diet. After 1 year of this system I can freely eat all i want without gaining weight.

The secret is Regularity and Patience to wait results…
