Heal Your Thyroid to Boost Metabolism & Get Your Body Back!

Your thyroid is one of the most important glands in your body.

It controls your metabolism, weight, and mood.

Unfortunately, most people have a sluggish thyroid without even knowing it.

They work hard to eat perfectly or exercise every day, yet their body wouldn’t budge.

If this sounds familiar to you, maybe your thyroid is running slow too.

Fortunately, eating the right foods, reducing stress, and detoxifying your body may help you heal your thyroid and reach your ideal weight.

Step #1 Detox from Toxins

Eating junk foods or excessive pesticides and toxins exposure may disrupt your thyroid balance.

  • Try to eat as many organic foods as possible.
  • Avoid fluoride and chlorine in water.
  • Test yourself for mercury and get it out of your environment.

Step #2 De-Stress

Stress also affects your thyroid function negatively.

In addition, when you are stressed, your body produces a hormone called Cortisol. And chronic cortisol overexposure can cause heart attacks, sugar cravings, diabetes, excessive belly fat, depression, chronic pain, and other life-threatening problems.

Two of my favorite approaches to reducing stress are:

  • Listening to relaxing music.
  • Have a great late-night snack that promotes good sleep and helps me wake up rested. (I love Geek yogurt with honey and a sliced banana.)

Step #3 Foods That Support Your Thyroid

In a Mediterranean-style diet, many nutrients support your thyroid:

  • Iodine
  • Omega-3
  • Selenium
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin D
  • Zinc

Here’s a list of the best thyroid-boosting foods rich in these nutrients:

  • Eggs, spinach, garlic, mushrooms, and summer squash contain good amounts of iodine. (I always cook scrambled eggs with spinach and mushrooms for breakfast)
  • Nuts (Hazelnuts in particular) contain good amounts of selenium and Omega-3. They go well in salads, stir-fries, over desserts, or just a handful for a snack.
  • Enjoy fresh fruits or veggies at each meal. For example, blueberries, cherries, sweet potatoes, and green peppers are rich in Vitamin A.
  • Fortified milk has added vitamin D and significant amounts of calcium, and iodine.
  • Extra virgin olive oil contains healthy fats that help enhance hormone production in the thyroid gland.
