The Best Foods to Detox Your Body

Sick of feeling lethargic, fatigued, and fat? Well, a detox could possibly be for you!

Try reducing highly refined carbohydrates, alcoholic beverages, fatty dairy products, and caffeinated drinks from your current diet, and start including these foods to feel completely renewed.

Drink your own detox water

A good way to jumpstart your new lifestyle is to flush out some of the toxins that have accumulated as a result of years of unhealthy eating.

The best way to detox is to flush your system with fresh, pure water.

To make a delicious detox water, put six cups of ice into a pitcher and add water to make 2 quarts. To the ice water, add the following recipe, stir and chill in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.

Recipe: Strawberry Basil Blast

Gently muddle (mash) the following with a wooden spoon:

• 8 fresh basil leaves, gently scrunched
• 3 cups strawberry halves

Power-Up Your Breakfast

Smoothies offer fiber, antioxidants, protein, and healthy fats in one meal. They are a delicious high-protein alternative to a heavy, egg-centered breakfast.

Recipe: Blend a frozen banana with any other fruit you like, unsweetened almond milk, and apple juice concentrate. Throw in a couple of kale or spinach leaves if you want a green detox smoothie.

Make vegetables your main course.

It’s no secret that women in Italy and Greece have the highest consumption of vegetables in the world. Recent studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition show that plant-rich diets help keep you healthy as you age.

Enjoying more salads is a great way to boost your veggies consumption. For example, mix sweet apples, fennel, and crunchy endive to make a bright, light salad, which is a lovely side dish for lunch or dinner.

Most vegetables contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a powerful compound that can help you detox your liver. It could also lower triglycerides and high blood pressure.

How to Enjoy More Veggies:

– Bake: Baking veggies brings out their natural sugars making them taste just as sweet as candy.

We highly recommend root vegetables, such as beets, cooked carrots, and sweet potatoes.

Hint: Skip French fries -> Eat baked sweet potato chips

They are sweet, delicious and packed with nutrients and fiber. They are low on the Glycemic Index so you’ll get a sweet, carby sensation without the blood-sugar spike.

– Grill: Grilling makes anything taste better. Carrots, corn, beets, and cauliflower are excellent choices for grilling.

Just spray with a little extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with some pepper or Italian seasoning.

Recipe: Italian Seasoning

Add authentic Italian flavor to pasta, salad, meats, or soup, it’s a delicious addition to garlic toast.

• 3 Tbsp. dried oregano
• 3 Tbsp. dried basil
• 2 Tbsp. dried marjoram
• 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
• 1 tsp. dried thyme

Combine ingredients and store at room temperature in an airtight container.

– Blend: Add spinach to garlic, basil, and extra virgin olive oil, and blend for a condiment that is much better than mayo! (I love it on toasted bread!)
