Mediterranean meals are also centered on olive oil as main source of fat, with low supplies of red meat and dairy products, high amounts of fish, and moderate drinking of wine.

This diet will load you with the vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and the healthy type of fats that your body needs.

In their study, the researchers consider this dietary method to be parallel with how humans evolve naturally to protect our bodies against diseases, such as prostate cancer.

Their study is also consistent with other research endeavors previously done that show how the Mediterranean diet can reduce death rates from whatever cause, ranging from cardiovascular to cancer, as well as reduce the incidence of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

Fortunately, the Mediterranean diet is one of the easiest diets that one can stick with. It does not require major changes in eating habits, but might need some getting used to.

It only means that the next time you go grocery shopping, you get less of the meat and dairy, and load on fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts. You will also need to get some olive or canola oil, and avoid fried foods.

Eventually, you will realize that adopting the Mediterranean diet is actually just about living healthy by eating healthy. The best benefit you can get is prevention of many diseases, including prostate cancer.

It also gives you better chances for longer and better quality of life.

If you have a family history, or if you are at added risk for conditions like prostate cancer, there is no better time than now to change your eating habits. All you need to do is choose what you eat and live healthy.

Compared to the potential health benefits you can get, the small amount of sacrifice to give up that red meat and those fast “junk” foods is well worth it.
