Flex your muscles

Munch on fruit

Fruits contain the vitamins and minerals that will help you get the nutrients that you need. Fruits can also help fulfill your needs to have sweets. In addition, fruits have carbohydrates that are beneficial for a person with diabetes. You will want to eat fruits that contain no added sugar; therefore, fresh fruits have the best nutritional value for you to eat.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition states that eating blueberries, apples and pears may be associated with a decreased risk of diabetes. If you consume blueberries (2 cups a week), apples or pears (5 a week), you are 23% less likely to acquire the disease.

Ban the bacon

Bacon is not a food that diabetics should consume. The meat is high in saturated fat, calories and cholesterol. A new study from Harvard Public School of Health states that there is a correlation between eating processed meat and the increased risk of Type 2 diabetes.

In fact, consuming 4 oz of red meat each day increases the risk of diabetes by 19 percent (2 oz. a day of hot dogs and bacon rise the risk by 51%) . Preservatives in the meat build insulin resistance. Therefore, you should replace red meats with proteins, such as beans or fish. The University of Valencia in Spain says that people who consume more fish are less likely to develop diabetes, so fish is beneficial for a diabetic to eat.
