Is Resveratrol a miracle ingredient? It certainly seems to be a buzz word which can’t do anything wrong. Let’s examine the benefits which have been tested and aren’t merely unsubstantiated claims. Resveratrol is available as a supplement which can reverse some health issues.
- Resveratrol provides a boost to the immune system, helping patients who have cancer and those who have been exposed to some radiation.
- Increases energy levels, and an older person will find that wrinkles and lines soften giving a healthier appearance.
What is Resveratrol?
In a nutshell it’s an antioxidant – an antioxidant which counteracts damage caused by the toxins (oxidants) which attacks organs of the body. Considered to be one of the most powerful of all antioxidants, it acts as a catalyst in assisting Sirtuins to reduce wasting of genes thus allowing good genes to refresh themselves.
How can we find Resveratrol?
The majority of people have consumed Resveratrol, but just not realized it. Do you like peanuts, because if the answer is “yes” then you will have been taking Resveratrol? Until very recently peanuts have been thought to be really unhealthy and with high levels of fat, however, people who do eat peanuts on a daily basis are healthier and have a lower body fat than a high proportion of the population.
Resveratrol is found in fruits that many of us eat on a daily basis. If you eat blueberries, grapes or cranberries – well then, you are consuming Resveratrol. Do you drink red wine from lovely wine decanters? In that case you are also enjoying Resveratrol which is found in the skins of red grapes and which are not discarded during the wine making process. One ounce of red wine contains ninety micrograms of Resveratrol.
Harvard University Trials
Resveratrol has been fed to mice which had been on a high calorie diet and therefore had enlarged livers. Resveratrol reversed the effects on the livers of the mice and additionally eliminated other problems caused to the mice by their unhealthy diet. These included heart disease, obesity and arteriosclerosis.
Researchers also observed that energy levels on the mice increased to a level comparable with trained athletes (although unfortunately, I can’t get the picture out of my head of these mice lifting weights and doing press-ups!)
Other research shows that Resveratrol may help to treat age related diseases by acting as anti-aging agent to target enzymes related to life span and aging. Resveratrol simulates another gene which assists in restricting calories and assists in encouraging life span.
The Best Way for Us to Consume Resveratrol
Much as we’d like to say that red wine alone will be enough, unfortunately, it will take nearly one thousand bottles of wine to consume the amount of Resveratrol which is contained in one simple supplement.
Of course, before starting any supplement, if you have any health concerns, it is essential to take advice from your doctor just to receive approval that he is happy to confirm your decision to take Resveratrol supplements.
