The Five Keys to Healthy Eating

Healthy eating is about more than calories or following the latest dietary fad. Trends come and go. You have to transcend these temporary fads and ease into a lifelong habit of living lean.

How to follow an healthy eating?

The term “Mediterranean diet” has been invented by Americans to represent and healthy way of eating.

There are 5 simple ways to live and eat healthy:

  1. Evaluate the best combinations of foods
  2. Eat as much as possible raw foods
  3. Eat little but numerous daily meals
  4. Choose to eat the healthy Mediterranean foods
  5. Follow the general rules to lose weight

1. Evaluate the best combinations of foods

Our digestive system uses different gastric juices and enzymes to digest different types of food.

Example:Meat requires Hydrochloric acid and pepsin. These elements are less useful to digest starches and complex sugars that could arrive in the lung less digested and cause fermentation and swelling.

Below a list of ideal combinations to do. Don’t consider it as a rigid rule.

How to choose the best food combinations

While preparing or choosing you meal follow these right combinations to digest better and absorb more nutriments

  • Meats and fresh vegetables
  • Carbs (Pasta, bread) with fat proteins (Cheese, yogurt)
  • Carbs and vegetables
  • Fats and vegetables (Season salads with Olive oil)

Worst combinations

  • Animal proteins and carbs (Pasta, bread or rice)
  • Meats and fish with cheese
  • Animal proteins with legumes
  • Carbs with acid fruits (Agrumes, strawberries, etc…)
A word about fruit

Fruit needs a quickly passage in our digestive system. So it’s better to eat fruit alone (Snacks or breakfast).

If you eat fruits at the end of your meal, it could create fermentation. Apples and Ananas, instead, could help digest.

2. Eat as much as possible raw foods

Cooking foods decrease the presence of healthy nutriments and substances.

Eating raw foods helps because:

5. The general rules to lose weight

Inspired by this article I’d like to share with you my real tips to lose weight.

The main causes of overweight are

  • Metabolism
  • Lifestyle (Nutrition and Exercise)
  • Pshycologic

Consider also that there are not special foods that make you lose weight

So follow these rules to start approaching weight loss

  • Regularity (Hours, quantity and quality of meals)
  • A balanced menu that follow your ideal calories intake need
  • Don’t eat french fries, snacks or sugar added drinks

On the basis of your daily calories intake need and your activity, you have 2 ways to lose weight:

  1. Eat less
  2. Burn more calories (es: Using  an Elliptical machine)

Example: “If you want to lose 1 pound a week you need 3.500 less calories a week (500 a day)” You could:

  • Eat 200 calories less a day
  • Burn 300 more calories a day (30 minutes of walking a day are sufficient…or buy a wii)

Here a tool from www.disabled-world.com to calculate your calories intake needs. To see the calorie count of foods read the food chart.

Great tips! Your tips about how to combine foods was very helpful. In my diet, I do everything it says not to like combining carbs and meats. Next time I’ll make sure to have vegetables with my meat or Protein with my carbs.
