  • Lose excess pounds
  • Eat heart-healthy foods
  • Select whole grains
  • Stock up on fruits and vegetables
  • Exercise more than your intentions
  • Quit smoking
  • Drink alcohol only in moderation
  • Take medication as prescribed
  • Eat less high-fat food (especially those high in saturated fat)
  • Replace part of the saturated fat in your diet with unsaturated fat
  • Eat less high-cholesterol food
  • Choose foods high in complex carbohydrates (starch and fiber)

List of foods that help to lower cholesterol

  • Walnuts, almonds and more
  • Fish and omega-3 fatty acids
  • Five servings a day of fruits and vegetables
  • All of the beans or legumes also provide soluble fiber
  • Several of the vegetable oils can be beneficial. (Olive Oil)
