Low Calorie Alcoholic Drinks

July 20, 2007

Low calorie alcoholic drinks are the perfect way of keeping your weight in check while still having a great time! Hard as though it may be to accept, most alcoholic drinks are quite fattening and have some of the most calories of any drink. One gram of alcohol can have as many as seven calories – a gram of carbohydrates and proteins only have four calories. So let’s take a look at some drinks that won’t give you the dreaded pot belly as easily!

On average, most beers contain around 150 calories per 12 oz -may not sound like a lot but keep in mind this is just one bottle! The best beer that you could get is Pabst Extra Light Low Alcohol which only has about 67 calories! Molson Light and Anheuser Busch Natural Light are your next best bet, clocking in at only 82 and 95 calories respectively per 12 ounces!

Be careful with wines too. Though a glass or two a day has been proven to be healthy, most wines do have a high calories count too. Take Ruby Port for instance. There can be as many as 185 calories in just 4 ounces.

White Zinfandel wine is one of the lowest calorie wines around with only 80 calories per 4 ounces. Chablis and most Chardonnays are smart choices as well with 85 and 90 calories per 4 ounces! Even Red Wine is quite reasonable, with just under a 100 calories.

For you cocktail lovers looking to lose weight, it’s time to dial the cocktails down. A single shot (1 oz) of vodka or rum in a drink amounts to about 65 calories alone and once you start adding in the extra ingredients, that number skyrockets. A Brandy Alexander clocks in to about 300 calories and something like a Long Island Iced Tea drink average a whopping 750 calories per drink!

So when grabbing a cocktail, look into drinks such as the Mojito which is only about 160 calories or the popular Bloody Mary or Manhattan which average 150 calories!

Always remember to drink responsibly though!
